My Approach
My work is predominantly grounded in a psychoanalytic approach, centred on understanding how unconscious processes and early relational experiences shape emotional life in the present. It holds in mind the uniqueness of each individual, recognising that there is no one-size-fits-all model of therapy.
This perspective recognises that thoughts, feelings, and experiences outside of conscious awareness may influence how we think, feel, and relate to others. It also acknowledges the ways in which the past continues to shape the present, while holding that development and change remain possible throughout life.
At the same time, my practice is integrative. I draw on a range of therapeutic models to respond thoughtfully to each person’s needs, while maintaining a consistent depth-oriented focus.
I am also trained in the following evidence-based approaches:
-
Mentalisation-Based Therapy
-
Parent-Infant Psychotherapy
-
EMDR
-
Schema Therapy
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Elements of these approaches may be incorporated where appropriate.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy explores how unconscious thoughts, feelings, and past experiences shape the way we feel, behave, and relate to others in the present.
Within a thoughtful and consistent therapeutic relationship, it becomes possible to recognise these patterns, deepen self-understanding, and create meaningful and lasting change. This approach can be particularly helpful for difficulties such as anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and questions around identity.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a more intensive form of therapy, typically involving sessions a few times per week. This frequency allows for a deeper exploration of unconscious processes and the patterns that shape one’s internal world and relationships.
It can be especially helpful for longstanding or complex difficulties, including persistent anxiety or depression, recurring relationship patterns, and issues related to self-esteem, identity, or sexuality. The aim is to work at depth, enabling lasting change and a more authentic way of being.
